A couple things to think about

Jill Biden

Jill Biden

Joe Biden has been beat up over and over again for his propensity to “gaffe.” Personally, I think we need to come up with other ways to talk about it because after the campaign, I involuntarily tense up every time I hear that word. I prefer “screwed the pooch”, “stuck his foot in his mouth”, “accidentally disclosed” or ANYTHING other than using gaffe eight thousand times a news cycle. It reminds me of the horrors of “flip flopping” during the 2004 campaign.

Regardless, it was his wife, Jill Biden, who opened her mouth against the wishes of the Obama Administration last week.

On a surprise appearance on Oprah, Jill Biden shocked the audience and the world by saying that Vice President Biden was given a choice between Secretary of State and the Vice Presidency.

Does that mean we’d be under an Obama/Clinton administration if Biden had chosen to be Secretary of State? I, unfortunately, am not on Rahmbo’s list of confidantes, so I doubt I’ll ever know for sure. Yo Rahmy! CALL ME! Show some love to an MOT. B’vakasha?

One more thing to ponder. Should we consider it a gaffe if someone is merely telling the truth? A gaffe, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is “an embarrassing blunder.”

I don’t know if Jill should be embarrassed, frankly. If it was that important that she not say anything than someone should have made that clear. I watched the clip and it does not look like she thought she was out of line. When she was reprimanded, she merely shrugs it off and emphasizes that it was true.

Who can blame the lady for getting a little chatty on Oprah? At least she kept her feet off the couch. I’m looking at you, Tommy.

I guess the overarching question is whether or not we have a right to expect the spouses of politicians to be camera-ready tools of their spouse’s administrations. It’s one thing to be supportive of a family member who chooses to get into politics, but it is entirely another to be held to the same standards as they are.
Here’s the clip.

Ya know, if being camera-ready means the Second Lady will continue to wear those F-me boots, I’m all for it.
